"Did You Know?" Series, Episode 1: Dispatch Dashboard

What is the dispatch dashboard?

a feature in Spira's ORP™ web platform that allows dispatchers to visualize all jobs with its pertinent details and statuses on a map as well as a flattened Excel-like data grid

Who would use it?

Dispatchers at companies, such as Trucking Services, Well Servicing and Cementing Services etc., who can use a visual representation of their jobs to understand asset locations and optimize resource allocation.

How is it typically used?

Each day, the dispatcher would pull up the dashboard with all of the jobs scheduled for the day within their responsible area. From there, they can see what jobs need to be dispatched, in progress and completed. Their objective is to make sure all jobs are worked in a timely and efficient manner. They are able to dispatch jobs directly from the dashboard.

For jobs that are in progress, the dashboard provides a visual tracker of where the company assets/resources are located.

How does it empower the user to make educated decisions?

The dashboard is easily configurable and tailored to the customer in terms of what data attributes are displayed, on both the results grid and directly on the map. There is visual color coding by job statuses on the map. In addition, the dispatcher can create custom views of the data results on the screen to quickly toggle and access the exact data set they need, enabling them to effectively and efficiently perform their work.

For example, for fluid hauling jobs, the dispatcher can zoom into an area on the map and see that there is a job that needs to be dispatched. They can see the type of fluid and how many barrels is requested for pickup. In the same area on the map, there is a job nearby that a driver is already enroute to. The dispatcher can click on the job in progress and see how many barrels is expected for pickup. By knowing the capacity of the trucks and the total barrels requested, the dispatcher can make an informed decision as to dispatch to the same driver or to another.

What else can be done from the dashboard?

New jobs can also be initiated from the dashboard for when a customer calls in with a new job request. Also, in the scenario where a job needs to be cancelled and re-dispatched, the user can quickly copy the original job and make updates as necessary.
